Positive & Non-Positive Pumping
Positive and Non-Positive Pumping tackles the differences between the two types of systems, and the design and maintenance needs of each. Cavitation and aeration are addressed as special concerns, and become part of a larger discussion about the importance of good system design. This session is supported with colourful animations to illustrate important concepts, as well as a 3D video tour through a non-positive displacement pump.
Ready to move on? You should be able to:
Discuss the terms "starved pump" and "flooded pump".
Describe the process of cavitation, and how it causes mechanical erosion
Explain aeration, and its impact on a hydraulic system.
Describe the difference in function between positive & non-positive displacement pumps.
Categorize common models of pump as positive or non-positive.
